Hackers can be divided into many categories, depending on their motives, goals, or technical knowledge. Among the most common categories of hackers are:
White hat hackers
are hackers, who use their skills to improve the security of computer systems. Ethical hackers often work for companies or organizations, employing them to find and fix security vulnerabilities.
Black hat hackers
are hackers, who use their skills for malicious purposes, such as data theft, attacks on computer systems, or spreading harmful software.
Grey hat hackers
are hackers, who operate between the white and black areas of hacking. They may illegally test system vulnerabilities, but often do so with consent or for informational purposes.
Hacktivists
are hackers, who use their skills to support political or social goals. They may organize cyber protests or disclose important information to the public.
Script kiddies
are individuals without deep technical knowledge, but who use available tools and scripts to carry out simple attacks.
