Shopify is not the problem. The problem is the perceptions that circulate about it.

If you are involved in e-commerce, you have probably heard some of these statements.

"Shopify is only for small e-shops."
"It doesn't work properly in Slovakia."
"Shopify cannot be connected to ERP."
"Shopify is too expensive."

Most of these arguments do not stem from real experiences with today's ecommerce platform Shopify. Rather, they are opinions that have been circulating among companies for years as a narrative, often without context or based on projects that were implemented incorrectly.

At ui42, we design and develop Shopify solutions for Slovak and international brands, and with each new project, we encounter very similar questions or concerns.

Shopify is not the problem. The problem is the perceptions that circulate about it.

We have summarized the most common ones for you and added real experiences from practice, so what is it like with Shopify?

Myth No. 1: Shopify is only for small e-shops

This is one of the most widespread notions.

Yes, Shopify is an excellent choice for emerging brands. However, this does not mean it is only for smaller projects.

Today, thousands of international brands operate on Shopify with extensive product catalogs, high traffic, sales in multiple countries, and million-dollar turnovers.

The decisive factor is not the size of the company, but a well-designed solution architecture, quality implementation, and integrations that support business growth.

This is confirmed by our collaboration with GymBeast. One of the key requirements for this project was seamless integration of Shopify with the KROS ERP system. The result was a solution that naturally became part of the existing technological ecosystem and ensures reliable synchronization of products, orders, and other data.

Thus, the size of the e-shop does not determine the platform. It is determined by the way it is built.

Myth No. 2: Shopify cannot be customized

Another common notion is that all Shopify e-shops look the same. This impression arises mainly because many stores use ready-made themes without major modifications.

In reality, however, the theme is just a starting point.

Shopify allows you to design a completely custom design, create an original user experience, extend functionality through APIs, or program solutions precisely according to the needs of a specific business.

A good example is the ITYA project, where we prepared a completely custom design and UX. The solution also included integration of a payment gateway, carriers including express delivery via Wolt, integration of SuperFaktúra, marketing feeds, and data layer adjustments. During the migration, we also prepared redirects for all existing URLs to maintain organic traffic from search engines.

The result is an e-shop where most visitors do not even know what platform it runs on. And that is the goal of quality implementation.

Myth No. 3: Shopify is not ready for the Slovak market

We hear this argument regularly.

In reality, however, Shopify is not a "platform that does not work in Slovakia." It is a global solution that a good implementer can adapt to individual markets through integrations.

Local payment methods, carriers, invoicing, ERP systems, or legislative requirements are not a limitation of the platform. They are a matter of a well-designed solution.

This is well illustrated by the project Louie.

The client migrated existing Slovak and Czech e-shops to Shopify and was also preparing for expansion into Germany and Austria. The project included two-way integration of the Pohoda ERP system, implementation of Shopify Payments and local payment methods, connection of marketing tools, pixels, data layer, and product feeds.

Thus, the platform was not an obstacle to expansion. On the contrary, it created a stable foundation for further brand growth in European markets.

Myth No. 4: Shopify is expensive

The question of price is among the most common. However, the truth is that there is no universal answer.

A simple e-shop built on a premium theme will have completely different costs than a solution with its own UX, multiple markets, B2B functionality, ERP integrations, or extensive automations. Ultimately, as on any platform.

Therefore, when comparing, we recommend not only looking at the monthly platform fee.

The total costs are more important. In custom development, you also need to account for hosting, security, updates, infrastructure management, or ongoing development of new features. Shopify natively addresses a large part of these areas.

That is why we do not answer the question "How much does Shopify cost?" to clients, but first ask what they want to sell, in which markets they will operate, what systems they need to connect, and what business goals they want to achieve.

Only then does it make sense to talk about the budget.

Myth No. 5: Shopify is not good for SEO

We occasionally encounter the opinion that migrating to Shopify automatically harms organic traffic. In practice, this is not the case. SEO is not determined by the platform itself.

It is determined by quality information architecture, content, technical implementation, website speed, and above all, properly managed migration.

If URLs are preserved, redirects are prepared, and technical SEO is correctly set up, there is no reason for migration to negatively affect search engine results.

That is why we pay the same attention to technical migration in Shopify projects as we do to design or development.

Myth No. 6: Shopify cannot be connected with existing systems

ERP, CRM, inventory management, accounting, or marketing tools are among the most common questions when choosing a platform.

Shopify has a robust API and a wide ecosystem of connectors that allow the platform to be connected with most enterprise systems.

Whether it is Pohoda, KROS, or other solutions, the integration itself is usually not a problem.

The key is to design the correct data flow between individual systems and thus decide where products, orders, prices, inventory, or customer data are synchronized from.

The architecture of integrations is often more important than the choice of platform itself.

There is no universally right platform

After years of working on e-commerce projects, we know that Shopify is certainly not suitable for every project. Just like any other platform, each has its pros and cons that need to be considered when choosing.

The best solution always depends on business goals, processes, planned growth, internal systems, and budget.

That is why we do not start with technology. We start with questions and understanding the business.

Only when we understand how you operate can we recommend whether Shopify is the right choice, or whether we should lean towards another solution, design the architecture, and prepare a realistic implementation plan.
