Agentic AI
Veronika VerešováWhat does it mean
Agentic AI represents a new generation of artificial intelligence, which, unlike traditional models, does not just respond passively but acts actively. These are systems composed of so-called AI agents, which can independently plan, make decisions, and use external tools to achieve a specific goal with minimal human supervision.
While regular generative AI will write you an itinerary for a vacation, Agentic AI will actually book flights, a hotel, and autonomously find an alternative connection in case of a canceled flight. It has its own "agency" – the ability to act independently and purposefully.
More info
The foundation of agentic AI is large language models (LLM), which serve as the "brain." Additional components are connected to it: memory (both short-term and long-term) and tools (access to the web, APIs, databases, or software).
In more complex systems, we use multi-agent orchestration. This means that several specialized agents collaborate on one goal. One may be an expert in data analysis, another in coding, and a third in quality control. Together, they form an autonomous team that solves complex business processes in real-time.
How Agentic AI is Changing the Way We Work
Agentic AI is not just a technological trend; it is a transition from AI as a "writing assistant" to AI as a "digital employee."
Main Characteristics of Agentic Systems
-
Autonomy: The system does not need a prompt for every partial step. You set a goal, and the agent plans the procedure itself.
-
Proactivity: Agentic AI does not wait for a stimulus. It can monitor the environment (e.g., stock levels or stock prices) and intervene in case of an anomaly before a problem arises.
-
Adaptability: If the agent encounters an error, it can reassess its plan and try a different approach. It learns from feedback and the results of its actions.
-
Use of Tools: Agents can "press buttons" in other software, call API services, browse the internet, or write data into a CRM system.
Practical Use in Business
-
24/7 Customer Support: The agent not only answers questions but also verifies the order status directly in the system, changes the delivery address, or processes a complaint.
-
E-commerce Automation: Autonomous monitoring of competition, dynamic price adjustments, and optimization of stock levels without buyer intervention.
-
Software Development: AI agents can not only generate code but also independently test it, find errors (debugging), and deploy it on servers.
-
Personalized Marketing: A system that independently evaluates the success of campaigns and adjusts strategy or creativity in real-time based on user behavior.
